Komodo Island is the NEW Seven Wonders of the World


Seven Wonders of the World usually refers to the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Triggers the beginning of this list is Antipater of Sidon, who made a list structure in a poem (about 140 BC).

"I have seen the great wall of Babylon on which lies the road to war chariots, and a statue of Zeus at Alphaeus, and hanging gardens, and Kolosus Sun, and the great work that builds high pyramids, and tombs of Mausolus; but when I saw the house Artemis towering into the clouds, the other loses all its beauty, and I said, 'Look, apart from Olympus, the Sun never again see anything so grand.' "(Antipater, Greek Anthology IX .58)

The historian Herodotus, Callimachus of Cyrene smart people (roughly 305 BC - 240 BC), the technician Filon of Byzantium have listed earlier but these writings no one survived, but only as a reference.


There is some disagreement among sources about the Seven Wonders of the World, and with good reason. Every era has added a few achievements and discoveries, gave us many wonders to be seen and admired. Many people assume there are six sets of Wonders of the World.

   5. Wonders of the Modern World
   6. 7 Wonders of the New World

Wonders of the Ancient World

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Pharos of Alexandria, came from the middle ages. According to a written list of Antipater Wall of Babylon and not the tower lights. In a sequence according to the letter:

   1. Colossus of Rhodes - a huge statue of Helios, made around 292-280 BC by Chures, now Greece.
   2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon - built by Nebuchadnezzar II, around the 8th century BC to the 6th century BC, now Iraq.
   3. Mausolus Mausoleum - the tomb of Mausolus, Persian satrap, Caria, was made in 353-351 BC, the city of Halicarnassus, now Bodrum, Turkey.
   4. Lighthouse of Alexandria - the lighthouse was built around the year 270 BC on the island of Pharos near Alexandria during the reign of Ptolemy II by a Greek architect Sostratus, now Egypt.
   5. Pyramids of Giza - used as a tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, now Egypt. Built in the 4th dynasty of Egypt (about 2575 - about 2465 BC)
   6. Statue of Zeus - located in Olympia, Greece Fidias carved by the sculptor, about 457 BC is now Greece.
   7. Temple of Artemis - 550 BC, at Ephesus, now Turkey.
